Friday's match at Nizhny Novgorod Stadium saw an undermanned Uruguay, as Edinson Cavani did not play following his injury against Portugal.
France managed to take the lead in the 40th minute, when Antoine Griezmann's free-kick cross met with Raphael Varane's header.
Griezmann increased the Les Bleus lead to 2-0 in the 61st minute, when his powerful shot was parried over the line by goalkeeper Fernando Muslera.
That was a moment to forget for the experienced goalie as he appeared with Uruguay team for the 102nd time.
The remaining minutes caused no surprise as France will wait for the Brazil-Belgium match winner, which will be played tonight at Kazan Arena at 9 p.m. local time (GMT1800).
